EVHS Choir 

INTRODUCTION TO CHOIR 926010 Grade: 9-12

Credit: 1 Class Fee: $30

This choir is a mixed group who performs music from various time periods and in various styles including jazz, pop, and madrigals. This class fosters skills which help students become better singers and appreciate the relationships among music, other arts, and society. Learning the art of singing and enjoying the enrichment in the classroom promote student achievement, positive self-esteem, a spirit of cooperation, stage presence and etiquette, and career awareness. Evening performances are mandatory and are a part of the overall grade in this class. Special attire may be required for performances..

 

SHOW CHOIR 929712YR (EVHS - Yr.) Grade: 9-12

Credit: 2 (EVHS) Class Fee: $30

Prerequisite: Audition & Teacher Recommendation

Show Choir performs many styles of contemporary repertoire. This course fosters skills which help students develop vocal production techniques and ensemble participation. Learning the art of singing promotes student achievement, positive self-esteem, cooperation, stage presence, etiquette, and career awareness. Students will demonstrate leadership skills and collaborate with their peers, while making music. Vocal teachers will evaluate and select students by voice classification. Students will learn proper singing techniques while building up physical endurance to dance a 15 minute competition show. This course fosters skills which help students develop vocal production techniques and ensemble participation while singing and dancing daily. Evening performances are mandatory and are a part of the overall grade in this class. *Additional fees may be required for special attire for performances.

 

WOMEN’S A’CAPPELLA CHOIR 929710 Grade: 9–12

Credit: 1 Class Fee: $30

Prerequisite: Audition & Teacher Recommendation

This course gives students the opportunity to develop an understanding of A’Cappella music ranging from the Renaissances to the latest pop music. Women’s A Cappella Choir completes High School level three of the Virginia Department of Education vocal standards while singing contemporary repertoire. The curriculum is divided into four strands— Performance and Production, Cultural Context and Music Theory, Judgment and Criticism, and Aesthetics which provides the organization and pacing for instructional strategies in the content area. This course fosters skills which help students develop vocal production techniques and ensemble participation. Learning the art of singing promotes student achievement, positive self-esteem, cooperation, stage presence, etiquette, and career awareness. Students will demonstrate leadership skills and collaborate with their peers, while making music. Vocal teachers will evaluate and select students by voice classification. Performances are mandatory and are a part of the overall grade in this class. Special attire may be required for performances.

 

MEN’S A’CAPPELLA CHOIR 929711 Grade: 9–12

Credit: 1 Class Fee: $30

Prerequisite: Audition & Teacher Recommendation

Men’s A Cappella Choir performs many styles of music, ranging from Renaissance to Twentieth Century, as well as, contemporary repertoire. This course fosters skills which help students develop vocal production techniques and ensemble participation. Learning the art of singing promotes student achievement, positive self-esteem, cooperation, stage presence, etiquette, and career awareness. Students will demonstrate leadership skills and collaborate with their peers, while making music. Vocal teachers will evaluate and select students by voice classification. Evening performances are mandatory and are a part of the overall grade in this class. Special attire may be required for performances.

 

ADVANCED MIXED/TREBLE CHOIR 928012 Grade: 9-12

Credit: 1 Class Fee: $30

Prerequisite: Audition & Teacher Recommendation

Advanced Mixed/Treble Choir completes High School level three of the Virginia Department of Education vocal standards. The curriculum is divided into four strands— Performance and Production, Cultural Context and Music Theory, Judgment and Criticism, and Aesthetics which provides the organization and pacing for instructional strategies in the content area. This course fosters skills which help students develop vocal production techniques and ensemble participation. Learning the art of singing promotes student achievement, positive self-esteem, cooperation, stage presence, etiquette, and career awareness. Students will demonstrate leadership skills and collaborate with their peers, while making music. Vocal teachers will evaluate and select students by voice classification. Performances are mandatory and are a part of the overall grade in this class. Special attire may be required for performances.

 

Troubadours  Grade 9-12

Prerequisite: Students are invited by invitation from the choir director to join this group.

Troubadours completes High School level four and above of the Virginia Department of Education vocal standards. The curriculum is divided into four strands— Performance and Production, Cultural Context and Music Theory, Judgment and Criticism, and Aesthetics which provides the organization and pacing for instructional strategies in the content area. This course fosters skills which help students develop vocal production techniques and ensemble participation. Learning the art of singing promotes student achievement, positive self-esteem, cooperation, stage presence, etiquette, and career awareness. Students will demonstrate leadership skills and collaborate with their peers, while making music. Vocal teachers will evaluate and select students by voice classification. Performances are mandatory and rehearsals will take place after school. Special attire may be required for performances.
